Our First Home

March 2015 came after a particularly harsh winter.  This is New England after all.  So what better time to buy your first home then when the entire property is covered in three feet of snow (roof included!).  The snow was so bad that winter, that we could not even get out onto the back porch to look around the property.

Naturally, my husband and I leapt at this purchase!  It was a well maintained, yet extremely dated 1948 Cape and boy did we have big dreams for this property.  Not to mention, naive hopes of starting projects immediately.  Much to our surprise, we vastly underestimated the number of post-work nights and weekends we would spend on said projects.

Two years later, we have just started to make a dent in our list and I plan to use this blog as a place to share our building and design projects, as well as, every mistake, nightmare and battle scar!  Because, what would home ownership be without those moments.

Here is a glimpse of what we got ourselves into:

The Exterior

The Sun Room

The Pink Closet Bathroom (It is hard to tell, but the toilet is pink, and the sink is pink as well!)

The Kitchen

The Dining Room

The Master Bedroom

Old Master Closet and Bathroom

The Master Bathroom…AKA The Only Full Bathroom

The Living Room

The Other Bedrooms

One thing is for sure, these people loved wood paneling.  Thankfully 50% was real strong wood, but the upstairs is entirely cheap, thin, and hideous wood paneling.  This house continues to be a work in progress, and with every wall we open there is always a surprise.  To hear more about these surprises, keep an eye out for upcoming blog posts documenting the never-ending home ownership chronicles of The Broadway House.
