Weekend Update: Attic Remodel Progress
Famous last words: “We have a long way to go, but I can’t wait for our first guest bedroom to be complete! As always, stay tuned, I will do my best not to take months with an update!”

Well, here I am, months later.
The dumpster arrived last week so I have been very busy the past two weekends trying to get the second floor remodel moving. As of next week, we need to have a legit home office. So the guest bedroom remodel is getting tweaked a bit. And we have a week to make this usable space :/
I still have a lot of work to do, but thankfully I have a fully stocked supply of masks and I am feeling pretty motivated these days!
This project is just another reminder of how scary things can look when you are starting out, but I am nearing the point where I can see the final product in my mind, and I am feeling a bit more confident in my abilities to make this space livable.

Having drywall under the wood panels made this job somewhat easier, but they never finished the seams. So the first thing I did last weekend was to tape and mud all the seams, and patch up all the holes. Over the course of three days I did three coats, and then I gave it all a good sanding and sealed it with a drywall sealer.
This was my first time doing seams, and I admittedly have some practice to do, but the room definitely looks better already:
This weekend, I turned to the hallway leading up the stairs and the landing between the two rooms and attic space. As you can see, this is a weird space, and that opening that leads to the unfinished attic space is the result of a poorly planned dormer situation. It would cost a significant amount of money to change the roof structure, so we decided to embrace the quirkiness of it all. I am hoping this remodel will at least make it look nice, even if it is odd.
In the process I discovered one of the greatest surprises a homeowner can experience. HARDWOOD FLOORING.
Here are some in progress pictures:
Once I got everything cleaned up, I started getting pretty excited about how this is going to look when it is done. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to pull the wall panels off, but that will get done next weekend before the dumpster goes!
I don’t know how you figured all this out, you’re amazing!
[…] So this weekend I started by teaching myself to frame a window. I’ve been waiting to do this project until we made some progress on our attic remodel. There was no sense in starting until our walls were done! […]
