Everything You Need to Have a Cozy Fall this Year

Note: This post may contain affiliate links.

I am a New England girl through and through.

Unfortunately, we had to sell our home (yes, the one we put so much work and money into!) and move to the DC area. Hopefully this time next year I will be on my way “home” to find a new property to have fun with!

For now, I need to ease my homesickness with all the things I love about Fall. These products, movies, and recipes for Fall are sure to put you in that autumn mood.

Details About All My Cozy Fall Favorites

Quick List

“Wicked Good Moccasins”

Cost – $79

Move over UGGs, there is a better slipper out there!

I have literally been wearing the Wicked Good Moccasins from LLBean for decades. In fact, these slippers are so sturdy and they hold up so well, that I get a little sad when I can’t get new colors.

These Sherpa lined slippers are a staple in New England, and being in Virginia has made me realize that not many people know about them!

I can assure you that those people are throwing away money on slippers that won’t hold up as well as these. 😁

LLBean must have known that I moved down here, because our mall actually just put a store in. We ventured over there one day and while the mall was insanely packed, no one was in the LLBean store!

So seriously…you guys are missing out if you haven’t experienced the glory that is an LLBean store. And you are definitely missing out if you haven’t bought these slippers yet!

Side note, they also make amazing gifts. (Christmas, hint hint)

Easy Churro Apple Tartlets Recipe

Alright, so now that you have your slippers, it is time to talk food.

It came to my attention recently that a lot of people don’t know about apple cider donuts. How that is possible, I don’t know!

But, if you find yourself near an apple orchard in New England…run there, because you are seriously missing out.

Our favorite Apple Cider Donuts are award-winning and from Cider Hill Farm in Amesbury, Massachusetts. You can now order fresh donuts and have them shipped anywhere in the US!

Shop their store HERE!

Until then, these churro apple tartlets from Knife & Paddle are the most perfect fall dessert for you to make at home. I discovered them last year and have repeatedly made them.

Bonus: they freeze so well! So if you are a little family of two like us, whip up extra and just throw them in the freezer! Just another reason why they are one of my go-to recipes for Fall.

Exfoliating Pumpkin Sugar Scrub

Cost – $34

This exfoliating pumpkin sugar scrub from Tula is one my absolute favorites once the weather cools off, and I start craving those fall scents.

This exfoliating scrub started as a limited edition collaboration that Shawn Johnson East did last year with Tula and I am so happy that it stuck around! Shawn did this collaboration with her mom in mind, and honored her pumpkin bread recipe in the process.

I mean, can you even get more homey and fallish than that!?

Tula Pumpkin Sugar Scrub collaboration with Shawn Johnson

Overall, if you haven’t tried Tula I highly recommend it (not sponsored) I just honestly love it. This pumpkin scrub is perfect to wake up your skin on those crisp cozy fall mornings.

Plus Tula offers 20% for first responders, military, nurses, government employees, and teachers. Just use “Shop ID Me”😁 And of course there are thousands of influencers out there with 15% codes, Just search “Tula” on Instagram.

Buffalo Plaid Doormat

Cost – $15

I have been searching around for the perfect Buffalo plaid doormat, so I could layer it. And to my surprise there are not a lot of good options out there. I finally stumbled upon this one at target.

Another affordable Threshold find! It’s reversible too, but I doubt I’ll ever use the striped side.

It was the only one in the store! One of the things I really like about this one is that the pattern is the same all around the edge. A lot of the other ones I’ve seen have a different edge on one side and not the other…if that even makes sense 😆

Plus, it is slightly oversized so it looks amazing layered! It also goes great with this Black and White “Welcome” Porch Sign I made a couple of weeks ago.

If you are a Buffalo plaid lover, like myself, I also recommend checking out this Buffalo plaid duvet from Pottery Barn. We have two duvets from there but we ended up going with a linen one over this. I’m still so sad, but it just didn’t go well with our current headboard.

Belgian Flax Linen Waffle Duvet

Cost – $199 to $299

Speaking of cozy fall favorites, how can I not talk about bedding! I’ll admit, I was hesitant to buy a linen duvet. Mostly because I am the worst with properly washing certain fabrics and linen scares me. Turns out, this duvet actually washes really well. Just cold water, and tumble dry! No extra work.

Belgian Flax Waffle Linen Duvet from Pottery Barn

This Belgian Flax Linen Waffle Duvet from Pottery Barn is so soft, and has a perfect worn in coziness about it. The waffle knit makes it perfect for fall. We have had it for about a month and are very impressed with the texture, quality, and look.

Now I am just looking for the perfect throw blanket to go with the “Light Gray” color option.

Pottery Barn Belgian Flax Waffle Linen Duvet in Light Gray

We had our last Pottery Barn Duvet for 6 years, so while the price tag for a King is $299, it is worth every penny. The Linen material is beautiful, soft, and washes well.

Plus it’s dog approved…

Gunner is actually the coziest dog you will ever meet. He likes to sleep like a human, and insists on getting out of his crate at 6am so he can get the bed to himself. I tend not to mind because he is so cute.

Tall Wool Socks

Cost – $19 to $25

On to my next cozy fall favorite. Socks.

My obsession with tall Smartwool socks runs so very deep, and my husband and I like to stock up at the end of every summer. (Kittery Trading Post, anyone??)

Smartwool socks are so perfect for fall, and I honestly wear them all winter too. In Virginia I can even get away with wearing them with my Birkenstock’s (yes, I am one of those stylish folks) throughout the winter…Massachusetts is a different story.

Smartwool Hiking Socks for Fall

These are a cozy fall favorite of mine because they are made of a light but warm material. Smartwool has so many great options on their site, but I usually buy any of the ones that say “hiking”. This is because they are warm, cozy, and made of breathable “smartwool”, so you don’t get too warm!

Black Candle Stick Holders

Cost – $25

These gorgeous candle stick holders by Threshold are a steal at target. Bonus, they will transition so well into Christmas decor!

Black Threshold Candle Stick Holders with Fall Decor

I first spotted these on another DIY Instagram account. I literally walked out of my house and went to find them at my local target 😁 They are simple, elegant, and give me Magnolia vibes without the price!

ALL The Halloween Movies

My husband and I watch these every year and it’s typically a pain to figure out where to watch them.

On top of that, it can be a little tricky to figure out the best watching order of the movies, since they span decades and don’t all actually have the same story line.

So here is the order we watch them in as well as some timeline notes. This post by Mayer Nissim on Digital Spy is actually an amazing breakdown of all the timelines if you want to dig a little deeper.

Halloween Movie Order

  • Halloween (1978)
  • Halloween II (1981)
  • Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
  • Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
  • Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
  • Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1983) – Has nothing to do with the other movies
  • Halloween H2O: 20 Years Later (1998) – assumes 4,5,6 never happened, sequel to Halloween II.
  • Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
  • Halloween (2007) – Remake of the Original
  • Halloween II (2009)
  • Halloween (2018) – A sequel to the original Halloween (1978) that assumes a different ending
  • Halloween Kills (Coming October 2021)

This amazing graphic from Paste Magazine puts it into strong visual context!

Between Amazon Prime Video, Shudder, and AMC+ you can find all of the released Halloween movies. I’ve also had luck getting some of them for free on the Xumo App (smart TV or any screen!)

AMC has been running FearFest starting every October 1st, for a decade. So be sure to check out their schedule, or use the app to watch on your own time. This is a good resource for viewing times.

I also recommend accessing the free 7 day trial for shudder, and binge watching as many as you can for free!

My Go-To Crockpot Chili Recipe

Last, but not least, can you even have a cozy fall if you don’t make meals in your crockpot?

I am a simple cooker. So for me a “throw in the crockpot and leave” recipe is the best!

Since I was recently told by my doctor that I needed to cut out dairy, meat, and gluten, I have had to adapt some of my go to recipes, because these restrictions basically leave me with not much to eat!

Thankfully I was able to get their blessing to eat high quality chicken on occasion, so I was able to change out red meat for ground free range/hormone free chicken in my chili! Which brings me to another one of my favorite recipes for fall.

Gluten Free Crockpot Chicken Chili

Like I said, I am a simple cooker. So when it comes to measurements…I just eye ball it. Honestly it’s the same for all my DIY projects that don’t need exact sizing 😬

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Ground Chicken
  • McCormicks Gluten Free Chili Seasoning
  • 1 Large Yellow Onion (chopped)
  • Spoonful of Minced Garlic
  • 2 Large Fresh Jalapeños (chopped)
  • (2) 16 oz can of Red Kidney Beans
  • (1) 29 oz can of Tomato Sauce
  • (2) 10 oz can of Ro-Tel (Original, Mild, or Hot)
  • (2) 4 oz Cans of Chopped Green Chili’s
  • Olive Oil for cooking

1. Cook your ground chicken and chopped onion in a pan over medium heat with a little olive oil. Once cooked drain.

2. Rinse and drain your kidney beans.

3. Put everything in the crockpot, mix it up, and cook on Low for 6 hours.

Gluten Free Crockpot Chicken Chili

If you want to cook faster you can throw it on high for a couple of hours, but I love having it cook slow all day! Remember, you’ve cooked the chicken, so you are just warming everything else up and giving the flavors time to mix together!

Serve and Enjoy! Throw any left overs in a large ziplock bag (once cooled) and freeze flat. Chili reheats great!!
